I just realized that I didn’t included thoughts on family relations in JKMM.
Easiest thing is with tanks and planes. Slightly changed and upgraded design of previous plane/tank is definitely younger sibling. The more changes, and not as, many changes between plane A and plane D but more like gradual changes between planes A, B, C and D, would be probably still siblings. Same manufacturer but completely new design, either cousin or kid. When it would be kid? When it’s design is somehow based on older plane and uses similar solutions. Pretty much same for tanks, though it’s hard with Soviet Tanks, because seriously if you change turret it’s not new tank. Oh, there’s also that mix designs thing too, result of that is only kid.
I think I wrote everything I wanted on ships family relations. They have it more complicated, because there’s practically no parent-child relations, beside few cases. Saying that some ship class is parent for other class would be troublesome. There’s often 4 or 5 ships (large ships) in class, and sometimes there’s even more (smaller ships like corvettes). Though job to point who exactly is parent, unless there’s info that specific ship’s design was used for basing. In cases of 2 ships in class it’s easier, just assuming who’s is who’s parent.
I really have too much free time.
